Dear Annunciation Parishioners.

Bob Dylan has been quoted saying “I think of a hero as someone who understands the degree of responsibility that comes with his freedom.”

Today, the tendency is to use the word “hero” without much thought in a way that dishonors our brave fighting men and women who served their country proudly, whether for America, Greece, or other countries, many of whom offered the ultimate sacrifice defending the freedom in the manner which Dylan expressed.

I am proud to come from a family in which my grandfathers, father and I served our country and I feel it my responsibility and honor to ensure that our parish takes time to recall the real meaning and history of Memorial Day which honors those who died in the service of their country defending freedom.

To this end, Demos and I encourage each of you to take time out to watch this Updated Memorial Day video for 2023 highlighting those of our parish who served but are no longer with us. May their memory be truly eternal.
