With the completion of the Pascha and having experienced the joy of Christ’s resurrection, the message of His promise of salvation bears repeating in the context of what that means in our understanding of our Orthodox faith. Of course, the Christian faith can no more be expressed in the content of a single article as could the works of our savior Jesus Christ. As the Evangelist John wrote in his Gospel, “If every one of them were written down, not even the whole world would have room for the books that would be written.” (John 21:25). However, that shouldn’t stop us from being able to express some of the central tenants that makes Orthodox Christianity a light unto the whole world.
Orthodoxy is not a faith of indoctrination but a way of life (for in fact the Early Christians were referred to as followers of The Way – Acts 24:14,22). A follower of Christ exhibits a daily behavior, different from what the secular world views as normal or important. For us as Ortho-dox Christians a separation of our life into spiritual and worldly compartments is a foreign concept. There is only one path which guides all of our life decisions and that path was established by Christ Himself and passed on through His apostles, the clergy and of course all of us who are called to a “holy priesthood.” (1 Peter 2:5).
